PAVILLION : THE BUILT + NATURAL LANDSCAPE . Gammeltorv + Nytorv, Copenhagen, Denmark

LANDSCAPE explores the relationship between the built environment and the natural environment. A wooden, organic landscape extrudes up from the existing cobblestones on the site, offering people a comfortable place to sit while activating the otherwise deserted square. Depending on the season and weather, more posts can be added to provide additional seating.

A corten steel box sits atop the landscape. From the outside the two elements feel very seperate, underlying the idea that the built and natural are distant; however, the floor and seating inside of the pavilion are made from the wooden posts as well, showing that the two sectors can rely on and fundamentally need each other to be successful. Inside, projections of a Danish forest fill the pavilion and change in real-time with the seasons. At night, lights from the projections come through the perforations in the steel and give a starlight effect on the pavilion’s exterior.
